The unique JCB Plexus filter cleans the hydraulic oil down to 1.5 microns. This extra fine hydraulic fluid filtration unit dramatically cuts down on dirt and condensation in the system - often a reason for machine faults. Consequently, servicing intervals will increase, downtime will reduce and overall machine reliability will be enhanced. What's more, hydraulic components will enjoy a longer working life while the oil itself will last 5,000 hours.
500 hour engine oil and filter changes, twice as long as normal, are achieved by the combination of two large oil filters - one full flow, the second a fine by-pass filter - to ensure very clean oil for long engine life and low maintenance.
The Isuzu smooth high performance 6 cylinder 115kW (154hp) turbocharged engine has legendary reliability. Its in-line, direct injection fuel system delivers long-term, high combustion efficiency for low fuel consumption.
Automatic pre-heat glow plugs in each cylinder mean first-time starting whatever the climate. And with automatic warm-up, the engine avoids unnecessary wear during start-up in cold climates. For hotter climates, a large open matrix radiator with fine mesh protection - maintains exceptional cleanliness and provides efficient cooling.
A high quality pressed steel cab that's spacious and well appointed. And it's mounted on 6 fluid filled resilient mountings which insulate against noise and vibration while minimising movement when tracking over rough ground.
With the comfortable and adjustable seat, the operator will find it easy to find the best position in relation to the controls. Both the seat and control console can be adjusted independently. The seat and control console can then be moved in unison for cockpit style adjustment. The seat can fully recline.
Ventilation is exceptional with large opening door windows and a spring-assisted opening front window. Fan-assisted fresh air ventilation takes over when the doors and windows need to be closed. And for total in-cab temperature and fan speed control, there's a fresh air/recycle heater and demister. Air conditioning is available as an option.
Numerous features are fitted to enhance comfort such as a digital radio/cassette player, cigarette lighter, ashtray, clock and storage box.
Instrumentation is very user-friendly. One touch switches are covered with a membrane for easy cleaning and are back-lit for night working. Written information on the machine's vital functions is transmitted via the illuminated LCD monitor in any of 12 European languages. Contrast control ensures that the monitor can be easily read whatever the light.
A wide door, together with conveniently positioned grab rails, means easy cab entry.
Large glass areas mean excellent visibility especially low down to the operator's left or right and to the rear of the machine over the low bonnet line and rounded counterweight. The front screen is also fitted with intermittent wash/wipe as standard.
The JS240 has undercarriage options to suit different site conditions and transport requirements; Standard (S), Long Carriage (L) and Narrow Long Carriage (NL). All feature X-style frame work, integrally welded to be strong and durable, for excellent ground clearance.
Sturdy, damage resistant foot steps are attached to the undercarriage side frames for easy cab access. Twin track chain guides and central underbelly guarding provide added protection for arduous site conditions.
The undercarriage side frames slope for easy cleaning and have large cut outs to reduce dirt build-up beneath the top rollers.
Three travel speeds can be selected, 5.5km/h for fast travelling between jobs, 3.4km/h for more tractive effort in difficult conditions and a particularly useful slow speed of 2.4km/h for greater precision, control and manoeuvrability. Auto shift instantly matches speed to ground conditions to prevent track stall for ease of use and enhanced site mobility.
Four different work modes can be selected to maximise productivity, fuel economy and control by matching the machine's output to the operating conditions. Heavy Mode (H) is for heavy digging and loading jobs; Standard Mode (S) is for general excavating and loading; Light Mode (L) is for precise, lighter duty finishing work; Fine Mode (F) is for operations needing fingertip accuracy including lifting, with extra pressure available for jobs such as trench box/shuttering extracting.
The ultimate in engine speed control is provided by the rotary throttle and combined one-touch, auto-idle system. The one-touch idle button, positioned on the servo lever, gives instant manual control while the auto-idle cuts in automatically when the machine is not actively used. (Depending upon operator preference, it can be programmed to wait 1-30 seconds before dropping to idle). For maximum safety and control, engine speed will only increase when the one-touch button is intentionally pressed.
The multi-function hydraulic system allows simultaneous smooth control of all excavator functions. It also ensures straight line tracking at all times, whether other functions are being used or not.
